Antenna technology is the “upper limit” of system development
Today, respected Teacher Chen from Tianya Lunxian said, “Antenna technology is the upper limit of system development. Because I may be considered an antenna person, I couldn’t help but think about how to understand this sentence and how different understandings will affect my future career.
If antenna technology is regarded as the upper limit of system development, my initial understanding is that antennas are a key component of wireless communication systems. They are the transmitting and receiving devices of electromagnetic waves, and whether it is handheld communication devices, wireless networks, or satellite communication, they cannot do without antennas.
From the perspective of antenna transmission efficiency, the design and performance of the antenna directly affect the signal transmission efficiency. If the antenna design is poor (including antenna position, antenna direction, antenna gain, antenna impedance matching, antenna polarization method, etc.), even if other parts (such as amplifiers, modulators, etc.) have good performance, they cannot achieve maximum efficiency.
From the perspective of antenna reception quality, the reception ability of the antenna also determines the signal quality of the receiving end. The poor reception performance of the antenna can lead to signal loss, interference, and other issues.
From the perspective of system capacity, in wireless communication systems, the design of antennas also affects the system capacity. For example, by using more complex antenna arrays, the system’s capacity can be increased and more parallel communication links can be provided..
From the perspective of space utilization, the development of antenna technology, such as beamforming and MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output), can more effectively utilize space resources and improve spectrum utilization.
Through the above considerations, the development and optimization of antenna technology have greatly affected the performance and development potential of wireless communication systems. It can be said that it is the “upper limit” of system development, which shows me the continuity of the antenna industry and the need to continue moving forward. But this may not mean that as long as antenna technology is improved, system performance can be infinitely improved, as system performance is also affected by many other factors (such as channel conditions, hardware performance, signal processing technology, etc.), and these factors also need to be continuously developed to make the system more efficient and reliable.
Expect more development and progress in antenna technology and other factors, such as smart antenna technology, integrated antenna technology, photonic crystal antenna technology, reconfigurable antenna technology, antenna array/MIMO/millimeter wave technology, antenna metamaterial technology, etc., to continuously promote the development of antenna technology and make wireless more free!
